So, apparently there are two types of people in the world, at least so the homily goes. I came across this one in Nicole Krause’s The History of Love (which I simply had to read as soon as I put down The Great House).
. . . there are two types of people in the world: those who prefer to be sad among others, and those who prefer to be sad alone.
My own personal dichotomy is this:
If you had to choose, would you rather be homeless or in prison?
If you know me at all, you know my answers to both.
